Student Wins 2009 Optimist Club of Issaquah Essay Contest

Gretchen Stroh, a Senior at Stillaguamish Valley School in Arlington, WA recently won the Optimist Club of Issaquah's Essay Contest based on a theme of "The Power of Youth." The contest, which is open to all Puget Sound area students, was sponsored by the local chapter of Optimist International.

Ms. Stroh was awarded a $250 college scholarship for the honor. In addition, her essay will compete along with winners from other NW Optimist Clubs in the Pacific Northwest district level contest. The winner of the district competition will be sent to the internationallevel contest. College scholarships are also available for top winners at the district and international levels.

"Gretchen did a wonderful job of articulating this year’s theme. She expressed herself well through the essay and deserved the honor of first place," Club President Bruce Pflaumer said.

The public is invited to an award ceremony to be held on Thursday March 26th, at 6 pm in the Eagle Room of the Issaquah Police station, located at 130 E. Sunset Way, Issaquah, WA.
